That is the most recent model of the basic Ilford Handbook of Images line, and is considerably updated over the earlier model to incorporate extra coverage of digital photography.
This is a wonderful ebook giving a detailed and technical look at all elements of images including lenses, optics, lighting, sensors and digital processing. The ebook is nicely written, and complicated topics are clearly explained. All main topics in technical photography are lined at an inexpensive depth. It's fairly technical with loads of math in some places. The mathematics is actually helpful, not simply there to impress.
If you wish to transfer away from basic images books and get a feel for what's underneath the hood, so to talk, then this can be a great book. Its the perfect single source for the technical aspect of images that I know of.
A word of warning: the Kindle edition has very poor quality. Shade is non-existent or poorly rendered, and the equations are barely readable. Most of the graphs are additionally poor quality. This is on a PC Kindle, on a daily handheld Kindle it will be even worse. I returned the Kindle e book for a refund and can buy the print version. The standard of the print version may be very good.
Authors - thanks for writing such a terrific book, but it's best to insist that Amazon enhance the standard of your Kindle book.
Amazon - Kindle books are an amazing thought, however technical books in Kindle format are sometimes very low quality. You should aim for not less than PDF quality.
Wonderful e-book on superior photography, biased to digital picture processing, but considering the photographic experience as a whole. Pretty superior at times, it's, nevertheless, exceptionally properly written and arranged, with clear explanations of virtually every part you may want to find out about photographic science, after which some.
A worthy successor of previous editions. Elizabeth Allen, Sophie Triantaphillidou, and coworkers, needs to be counseled for topping the excellent ninth version of this classic. A must have (and should learn!) for any severe photographer.
Caveat. This is not a textbook of pictures, much less a e-book on “suggestions” for can be photographers. if you wish to be taught or overview the basics, you could be better off consulting Nanette Salvaggio’s “Fundamental Photographic Materials and Processes” (the last incarnation of the basic Stroebel & Zakia) or the same severe text. That is a sophisticated therapy, that could be immensely useful to you *after* you understand the fundamentals of photographic science
